10-yr-old issued summons for incident at elementary school

JACKSON — The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies did issue a summons to a 10-yr-old boy after a disturbance at a school.

It happened Thursday, May 4 in the afternoon at Jackson Elementary School in East Feliciana Parish.

Deputies say the 10-yr-old child was in the vehicle with a parent who had come to the school to pick up a child.

The juvenile is said to have exited the parent’s vehicle with an unloaded BB gun, causing the disturbance.

“The father and an older sibling subdued the ten-year-old. The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer responded to the parking lot and took control of the BB gun,” said EFPSO in a statement.

Witness statements of the event indicate that the BB gun was never pointed at any person.

Because the age of criminal responsibility in Louisiana is ten years, the juvenile was issued a summons for disturbing the peace and released to his father.

State law prohibits carrying a firearm onto a school campus. A BB gun is not a firearm as defined by law.
