BATON ROUGE — A 17-year-old has been charged with shooting and killing an 11-year-old Thursday evening, Baton Rouge Police said.
Baton Rouge Police responded to reports of shots fired just before 7 p.m. in the 5600 block of Crestway Ave. That’s near Glen Oaks Dr. and Airline Hwy.
Police said Matthew Fortenberry, 11, was shot while sitting inside a vehicle.
Sources tell UWK that the mother of the 11-year-old rushed him to Our Lady of the Lake, but we’re told he died at the hospital.
The juvenile suspect, who has not yet been identified by police, was also shot. Police say he was treated at a local hospital and later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
He has been charged with first degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder, false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm.
Sources tell UWK that the suspect was shot at least twice. He was reportedly found on Greenwell St.
Police say the shooting is under investigation and a motive is unknown at this time.
