PORT ALLEN — The case of a mystery Zachary High School class ring has been solved, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions!
Tammy Harvey, of Port Allen, was going through her mother’s jewelry boxes a couple of months ago when she found a Zachary High School class ring. It wasn’t her mother’s, who never attended Zachary High School, and the family didn’t know who it belonged to or how it ended up in the jewelry box.
Harvey decided to post it on Facebook to try and find the owner, who graduated in 1968 and had the initials B.S.F. Enter: Brenda Sue French, who now goes by Brenda French Traylor.
Traylor said her husband’s cousin, who went to Zachary High School with Traylor, saw Harvey’s post on social media.
“She texted my husband and said, ‘Is Brenda missing a class ring?’ and I said, ‘Yeah!’ And then it snowballed from there,” Traylor said.
Traylor only had her class ring for a short time before she lost it.
“I think I had it like, two or three months,” she said. “I don’t know where I left it, or lost it, or I dropped it, or if I left it on a dresser and somebody took it. I don’t know what happened to it. I don’t know how it got where it got.”
She said she doesn’t know Harvey’s mother, and has no idea how her ring ended up in that jewelry box.
Traylor had the ring for such a short time, and it was so long ago, she doesn’t remember what it looks like.
“I think it was a blue stone, because I like blue,” she said. “It shouldn’t be hardly beat up or anything, because I didn’t wear it that long!” Harvey shared pictures of the ring with UWK, and the stone is blue. Harvey also said it is in good shape and she believed it was a woman’s ring because of the size.
“After 50-some years, you kind of don’t think about it anymore. But I am excited to see it,” Traylor said.
Harvey and Traylor were able to connect and Harvey is shipping the ring to Traylor, who now lives in North Carolina.
