Gonzales — Matthew Mire, the man once accused of killing a Louisiana State Police trooper has now pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder and ambush of Master Trooper Adam Gaubert in Oct. 2021 in Ascension Parish.
Matthew Mire was arrested for the 2021 ambush killing and in connection to a violent, multi-parish shooting spree that left two dead and three critically injured, including his own family members. Mire has now pleaded guilty to multiple charges and will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Mire also waived his rights to ever seek appeal, post-conviction relief, or federal habeas corpus review of any of his convictions and sentences in both the state and federal court systems.

“Mire gave a confession in open court to all of his crimes in Ascension Parish, Livingston Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish, including admitting the murders of Master Trooper Gaubert and Pamela Adair (Mire’s cousin’s long-time girlfriend.) He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences to run consecutively to 196 years for the attempted murder of Louisiana State Trooper Albert Martin and the attempted murder of Joseph Schexnayder (Mire’s cousin) and other crimes committed in Ascension Parish,” read a news release from Ascension Parish District Attorney Ricky Babin.

It was Oct. 9, 2021 around 12:30 a.m. when Mire shot a man and woman at a mobile home park on Hwy. 444 in Livingston Parish and then stole a blue Chevy Silverado.
State Police officials said Mire then went to Ascension Parish where he shot his own cousin Joseph Schexnayder, 42, and his long-time girlfriend Pamela Adair, 37. Adair died at the hospital while Schexnayder was in critical condition.

Around 5pm the same day, a neighbor in the Dutton Rd. area in Ascension Parish called and stated there was a state police unit with an unresponsive driver near the Capital One Bank. Unfortunately, that’s when a co-worker found Master Trooper Gaubert dead in his unit, nearly 15 hours after he died.
Mire to serve 348.5 years
As a result of the plea, Mire will serve a total sentence of two consecutive life sentences to be served consecutively to 348.5 years with no benefit of any possible sentence reduction or release mechanism available now or at any time in the future for any sentence in Ascension Parish and Livingston Parish. Mire will serve the remainder of is natural life in prison, where he will remain until his death.
Mire has not been sentenced at this time for crimes committed in Livingston Parish.

Master Trooper Gaubert, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a dedicated member of the Louisiana State Police since 2002, exemplified the core values of the department: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage,” said LSP Colonel Robert Hodges.
“With this guilty plea, we can say clearly that justice has been served,” said Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre. “Master Trooper Adam Gaubert was the essence of a dutiful law enforcement officer, and his legacy will continue to be an example for generations of public servants. While nothing can undo the pain caused by this senseless act of violence, we hope this outcome brings a measure of peace and closure to all who loved and respected Master Trooper Gaubert. My prayers remain with the Gaubert family, the Adair family and all the victims. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office will continue to honor their memory through our service and commitment to protecting this community.”
