The mother & grandmother of a 4-yr-old girl who was found dead yesterday, have been arrested for the toddler’s death.
The toddler, China Record, was found dead inside a home on Wallis St. just before 11am on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
China’s mother Kadjah Record, 28, and grandmother Roxanne Record, 53, have been arrested and charged with first-degree-murder.
Police said the child’s blood alcohol content, or BAC, was at 0.68. That’s more than eight times the legal limit of 0.08. An autopsy on the child showed the toddler’s death was a homicide from an ‘acute alcohol poisoning.’
The mother, Kahjah, told officers ‘she messed up and that she wanted to take full responsibility for the death of the victim.’ That’s because when her mother, Roxanne, allegedly made the 4-yr-old drink a half bottle of Canadian Mist, Kahjah did not stop her.
It was learned that Roxanne got upset that the toddler may have drank from the alcohol bottle on the counter. That’s when the grandmother allegedly forced the 4-yr-old to drink the remainder of the bottle, which was more than halfway full. Kahjah admitted to being present the entire time and did not stop her own mother from forcing the toddler to finish the bottle.
Kahjah said she did see her mother leave the kitchen with the alcohol bottle and then return shortly after with an empty bottle. A while later, the mother found her child unresponsive in the hallway. That’s when the child was supposedly put in a bath tub to try to ‘wake her up.’
When officials responded to the home, it was too late.
Both the mother & grandmother are locked up at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with first-degree-murder.
