54-yr-old man dies after vehicle goes up in flames

HAMMOND — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a man’s death, who died as a result of a vehicle fire earlier in the week.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that deputies and Ponchatoula Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire around 7:00 PM at the intersection of Sontheimer Road and the S. I-12 Service Road in Hammond.

When first responders arrived, they found a man dead in the vehicle, who was later identified as Edward Wallace, Jr., 54.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene and conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Sheriff Edwards says foul play is not believed to be a factor in this incident, however, the investigation is still ongoing.
