SLIDELL — A Laplace man was killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday on I-10 near Old Spanish Trail that also left his passenger critically injured. The crash claimed the life of 61-year-old Brian Chappell.

Around 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash near Old Spanish Trail.

According to LSP, Chappell was driving a 2011 Harley-Davidson, going west in the right lane on I-10 near Old Spanish Trail. At the same time, a 2019 Cadillac Escalade was going the same direction in the center lane.

For unknown reasons, Chappell crossed into the center lane and hit the right rear of the Cadillac. That’s when he lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the road before crashing into a ditch, according to officials.

The driver of the Cadillac was not injured in the crash.

As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.
