66-yr-old man from Walker killed I-12 crash

HAMMOND — A crash on I-12 in Tangipahoa Parish killed a 66-yr-old man from Walker.

The wreck happened Thursday, Aug. 24 just before 5:30 pm on I-12 near LA Hwy 1249 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Gene Duncan, 66, of Walker, died in the single-vehicle crash according to Louisiana State Police.

The investigation so far reveals Michael Clayton, 33, of Holden was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado east on Interstate 12, allegedly in a reckless manner, per State Police troopers. For reasons still under investigation, Clayton’s Silverado went off the roadway before hitting a sign and a tree.

Gene Duncan was one of the passengers in the Chevrolet and even though he was buckled, he did not survive his injuries. Duncan died on the scene. Clayton and another passenger, who were also buckled, had minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Clayton was arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for the following charges: negligent Homicide, reckless operation, and operating a vehicle while license is suspended.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was taken from Clayton for analysis.

The case remains under investigation.
