73-yr-old Denham Springs woman killed in crash

LIVINGSTON —- A 73-yr-old woman has died after a two-vehicle crash on Friday, Sept. 1.

It was shortly after 1:30 p.m. when State Police Troopers responded to a crash involving two vehicles on LA 1032 at Hillon Hood Road in Livingston Parish.

Carol Jones, 73, of Denham Springs, was killed in the crash.

The initial investigation reveals that Jones was driving a 2017 Nissan Versa headed south on LA 1032. At the same time, a 1999 Ford F-350, pulling a 30-foot gooseneck trailer, was also headed south in front of the Versa.

For reasons still being investigated, Jones tried to pass the Ford in a no-passing zone and hit the Ford while it was making a left turn on Hillon Hood Road. The impact caused the Versa to overturn and Jones was ejected.

Troopers said Jones was not buckled at the time of the crash and died on the scene. The passenger of Versa, who was also not buckled, was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.

While impairment is not suspected of the drivers, standard toxicology samples were taken and analysis is pending.

This crash remains under investigation.
