BATON ROUGE — A woman died inside a trailer Monday afternoon, allegedly at the hands of her roommate. That roommate is now behind bars, accused of her murder.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting in the 7100 block of Greenwell St. in Baton Rouge on Monday afternoon around 1pm. That’s near Hoover Ave.
According to EBRSO, Blanca Azucely Caalxo, 26, was killed. Her roommate, Henry Gonzales-Castro, 17, has been charged with negligent homicide after deputies say he allegedly accidentally discharged the gun through a wall.
According to Gonzales-Castro’s arrest warrant, he purchased a stolen gun off the streets for $100. After he was detained, he told deputies that he was scared when a man approached him so he purchased the gun off of him, adding to deputies that he was not aware the gun was stolen.
The 17-year-old suspect told deputies that he was in his room and removed the magazine from the gun. He said when he attempted to rack the slide on the gun, it discharged with the bullet going through the adjoining wall into his roommate’s bedroom, striking her. She was rushed to a hospital but did not survive her injuries.
Gonzales-Castro has been charged with negligent homicide and illegal possession of stolen firearms.
