ADDIS — The town of Addis is rallying behind its hometown star, John Foster, as he continues his impressive run on American Idol. Mayor David Toups is leading the chorus of support, sharing his pride in Foster’s talent, maturity, and the way he’s shining a national spotlight on Louisiana.
“We’re super excited and super proud of John Foster. He is definitely representing our communities really well—and representing the state of Louisiana as well,” said Mayor Toups. “We know it’s a community effort around here, so we’re excited and we’re hoping for big things.”
Foster’s rise on the national stage has not only energized the local community, but has also sparked interest across the state and beyond. His recent song Tell That Angel That I Love Her charting on iTunes is a testament to his growing popularity.
Mayor Toups says he’s been working behind the scenes in the event that John Foster makes the top three. The top three contestants have a hometown visit each year. He emphasized that Foster’s success is not just a personal achievement but a shared victory for the entire community.
“He’s so, so mature,” Toups said, noting Foster’s early involvement in programs like Educators Rising. “He’s a true student. Now he’s a true student of life. He listens to the judges, listens to what they’re telling everyone else, and puts it into action.”
Toups reflected on Foster’s journey, sharing a touching memory that traced his musical and personal growth back to a pivotal moment during the pandemic.
“If you say one positive thing that came out of COVID, John Foster Benoit is one of them, because that’s when he grew his wings—right there at that camp in Bayou Pigeon.”
The mayor spoke passionately about the widespread support from Foster’s family, friends, and neighbors, crediting them for helping to elevate the young artist to national attention.
“He’s got so many of us, locals all around here and a statewide type of thing, and not just the state. You can go beyond the boundaries of the United States because I think he’s very popular.”
Last week, Foster had 45 fans show up for his live show. Fans included friends, family and local dignitaries.
As Foster continues to make waves on American Idol, Mayor Toups says the hope is not only for a top three finish, but also a chance for America to see what makes the town of Addis so special.
