Addis Police investigating potential “self-defense shooting”

ADDIS — The Addis Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night at an apartment complex.

Addis police responded to the Sugar Mill Apartments on Belle Vale Dr. around 9:30 p.m. after the victim’s wife called 9-1-1.

Addis Police Chief Ricky Anderson says a male was walking/jogging around the complex when he was approached by two other men. Chief Anderson said those men reportedly started an argument with the man who was jogging.

“The victim told them he had no idea what they were talking about, but they did not leave. That’s when (he) pulled out a gun from his waistband in hopes of scaring the guys off. But they did not back off and that’s when the victim fired a warning shot,” said Chief Addison.

The shrapnel from the warning shot is said to have hit one of the men. Both of the men who got into the argument with the man jogging were transported to a hospital.

At this time, Chief Anderson said it appears to be a case of self-defense. No charges have been filed as the two alleged suspects are not cooperating.

Chief Anderson said their investigation into the shooting is ongoing and charges may be pending depending on what officers are able to uncover.
