BATON ROUGE – A man is in custody after a standoff with Baton Rouge Police officers at the Crown Efficiency Hotel on Airline Highway on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
According to authorities, Joshua Crier of Baton Rouge, was arrested and has a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Crier was wanted on charges related to an alleged domestic dispute in September. That’s why the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force was at the hotel executing the warrant on behalf of BRPD. Instead of coming out though, officials say Crier barricaded himself inside for several hours, leading up to the hotel standoff.
It’s why BRPD had to block the road and prevented people from going in or out of the nearby area Wednesday afternoon.
Crier was wanted on charges of domestic abuse battery with a dangerous weapon and for violating protective orders, according to BRPD.
On Sept. 18, officers with BRPD investigated a call about a domestic assault. The woman, identified as the victim, told the officers she had children with Crier and they had previously been in a relationship for five years.
She told officers that Crier came to the home, where they began arguing, and soon after, Crier allegedly started pushing and hitting her. In addition, she said that Crier grabbed a pot from the kitchen and allegedly hit her in the head with it. When she told Crier she was calling the police, Crier fled.
Officers saw that the victim had injuries that were consistent with the story, including a bump on her head. They looked for Crier but could not locate him at the time.
The woman had a protective order against Crier.
