BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Boat Club is gearing up for their annual Amite 100 Poker Run. The event that benefits the local charity, Dreams Come True of Louisiana, began back in 1987 as just a fun idea. It has since flourished into a huge community event.
The event will be held April 26 at the Canal Bank Club, with poker hand draws and a silent and live auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to Dreams Come True. The organization helps grant the dreams of Louisiana children with life-threatening illnesses.
Participants can do the run and travel down LA Hwy 22 by boat, car, or motorcycle, and the club encourages participants to enjoy the scenery along the way. There are 13 stops along the run.
The Amite 100 earned its name because it covers 100 miles.
Started in 1949, the Baton Rouge Boat Club has over 100 members today and holds several events throughout the year.
“We meet once a month and hold cruises one to two times a month during the boating season. These range from short runs on the river to long weekend trips in open water. Boats range from party barges and fishing boats up to large performance boats and cruisers,” their website says.
The club’s largest event of the year is happening April 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at Eventbrite for $60 a hand. The public is invited to buy as many hands as they want and play against other poker enthusiasts to help benefit Dreams Come True.
