Amite business owner drowns while fishing with a friend

AMITE — A prominent business owner in the Amite area drowned while fishing at a gravel pond off Hwy. 51 in Roseland, Unfiltered with Kiran has learned.

Jimmy Chandler, 64, was fishing with a friend when their boat overturned. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies reported that the friend managed to swim ashore, but Chandler did not make it back.

Following a search near the Tangipahoa River involving sheriff’s deputies and Wildlife and Fisheries agents, Chandler’s body was recovered shortly thereafter.

Chandler, who has owned several bars in the Amite area, is well-known within the community.
