AMITE, La. — The Tangipahoa Sheriff’s office arrested an Amite man in connection to the tragic shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend.
Demarcus Womack, 22, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, second-degree murder (feticide), illegal possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice.
The incident unfolded early Friday, October 25, on Bankston Road, where Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call just before 7 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found 19-year-old Aeiron Thomas, who was 13-weeks pregnant, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. Thomas died on the scene.
After further investigation, deputies identified Womack, Thomas’ live-in boyfriend, as a primary suspect. After locating him, Womack reportedly admitted to the shooting and to attempting to hide evidence of the crime. He was subsequently placed under arrest.
