ANGOLA — The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (WFPSO) arrested a 24-year-old Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) employee on Monday after finding contraband in her vehicle. She faces charges of malfeasance in office related to contraband.
Corrections sergeant Alsaysia Bates was arrested after a routine search at Angola on Dec. 21, 2025, which led to the discovery of three cell phones in her vehicle. The cell phones were deemed as contraband and immediately turned over to WFPSO.
During the investigation, WFPSO investigators found information on the cell phones that led to an arrest warrant for Bates being issued on Dec. 26, 2025, according to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections.
Bates has worked at Angola since Sept. 2, 2025. According to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, she voluntarily resigned from her position.
Bates bonded out of the West Feliciana Parish Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
Louisiana law prohibits anyone from bringing in or possessing contraband on the grounds of any state correctional facility.
