ANGOLA — A 35-year-old inmate at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola has died after being injured in a fight with another inmate, who has since been arrested on a murder charge.
According to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Jonathan Robertson, 35, was allegedly stabbed by another inmate and died Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested inmate Melvin Lopez in connection with the stabbing. He has been charged with Robertson’s murder.
Robertson was serving a 75-year sentence for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery. He had been housed at Angola since Feb. 2, 2020.
Lopez, 43, has been at Angola since 2017, serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. The LDOC says he is a native of the Dominican Republic and was in the U.S. illegally.
