DENHAM SPRINGS — A Denham Springs man arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 20-year-old pedestrian dead pleaded not guilty on all counts in a Livingston Parish courtroom earlier this morning
Brandon Chenevert was taken into custody on April 1 after two anonymous tips identified him as the driver involved in a crash that allegedly hit Jody Mann on March 29th. Mann later died in a hospital from her injuries.
Chenevert is facing charges for negligent homicide, hit-and-run and obstruction of justice, among other charges. He is expected back in court on on Aug. 4th for a hearing.
According to information posted on the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office jail roster, he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, on LA 1023, south of LA 63. Troopers responded to reports of a hit-and-run in which a pedestrian sustained serious injuries.
According to Louisiana State Police, their investigation determined that a vehicle, possibly a Toyota, struck the pedestrian and fled north on LA 1023. Authorities issued a public request for assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver, noting that the suspect’s car likely had front-end damage, including to the hood, grille, and windshield.
On April 1, troopers received two anonymous tips naming Chenevert as the driver. A search of his property led to the discovery of the suspected vehicle, which showed damage consistent with the crash.
During the search, troopers also allegedly found narcotics and firearms on the property.
Chenevert was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on multiple charges, including felony hit and run, negligent injuring, obstruction of justice, failure to seek assistance, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics, possession of Schedule III substances, and possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
The investigation remains ongoing.
