Apartment fire injures 3 & causes $1.5M in damage

BATON ROUGE, La: An apartment fire in Baton Rouge caused $1.5 million in damage and injured three people.

Early in the morning on Dec. 17, the Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at Hidden Pointe Apartments. St. George Fire, EMS, Baton Rouge Police Department, DEMCO and the Red Cross also responded to the scene.

There were no fatalities, but three people were treated for injuries.

Two children were treated for smoke inhalation, and one adult was treated for numerous lacerations that happened when escaping the fire.

The Red Cross assisted 37 people from the 12 unit building.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the fire may have began in a downstairs unit.

When firefighters arrived flames were coming from unit eight and spread into unit seven.

As they tried to enter the building, the flames reached the attic.

More units arrived as the flames began to spread in the attic over other units.

All resident were evacuated before the fire consumed the entire attic.

Two fire alarms were at the scene, and 15 units responded to the fire.
