APSO investigating potential Gonzales homicide

GONZALES — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a potential homicide after a woman was found dead in her home early Wednesday morning in Gonzales, according to authorities.

APSO says deputies responded to a home on Hwy. 74 around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. When deputies arrived, they found the body of Sonia Escalante-Baca, 43.

Officials say detectives noticed head injuries that appeared to be caused by blunt force trauma. According to APSO, detectives do not believe the incident was a random act of violence. It’s why the death is now being investigating as a potential homicide.

Detectives have interviewed the victim’s spouse and relatives.

An official cause of death will be revealed pending an autopsy. At this time, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
