PRAIRIEVILLE, La. —- A St. Amant man is wanted for allegedly planning to break into a home on Oct. 25, 2022 in Prairieville.
That scene however, ended with the man’s co-conspirer’s shot and killed by the homeowner. Officials are now looking to charge the man with his friend’s murder, 19-year-old Travis Richardson.
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office officials say an arrest warrant is out for Kayden Joseph Killain, 20, about the fatal shooting that took place on John Broussard Road.
Officials say Killain will be charged with second-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, criminal conspiracy/armed robbery, possession of fentanyl, possession of clonazolam and possession of marijuana.
When deputies responded to the home in Prairieville, they found Richardson dead from gunshot wounds. Deputies say they located a vehicle leaving the home that had been hit by bullets.
Killain was allegedly in that vehicle and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.
During their investigation, detectives learned that Killain and Richardson conspired the previous day to rob a man at the home where the shooting occurred. Killain and Richardson drove together to the home and attempted to carry out the robbery, according to deputies.
During that time, the homeowner opened fire at Richardson, who was also carrying a firearm, said APSO. Officials say the homeowner also fired several gunshots at Killain before he fled the scene. Detectives have interviewed that homeowner regarding this shooting incident; he does not face any charges at this time.
Because Killian’s friend was killed during the commission of another crime, a crime that Killian and Richardson planned together, Killian is now wanted for Richardson’s death, APSO said.
Anyone with information that can help locate Killain or that could assist deputies with this investigation is urged to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office anonymously at 225-621-4636 or by texting 847411 to our anonymous tip line from any cellular device or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
