AMITE — The man accused of shooting at officers and leading them on a pursuit has now been released from a hospital and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail.
Trey Ramey was released from the hospital on Nov. 17 and was booked into the jail.
He’s facing 12 charges including Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Armed Robbery
Louisiana State Police troopers said their preliminary investigation reveals that it was around 3 a.m. on Nov. 12 when a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a 2016 Chevrolet Trax on Highway 51 for an equipment violation. Instead of stopping though, troopers say 34-year-old Trey Ramey of Brusly, fled the scene, and a pursuit started.

During the pursuit, troopers say Ramey pulled out a firearm and allegedly fired multiple shots at responding officers. An Independence Police Department officer was shot in the leg. Officials said the officer’s injury is non-life-threatening, and they are being treated at a local hospital. That’s when a Tickfaw Police Department officer exchanged gunfire with Ramey, troopers said.
Ramey is then said to have carjacked two victims of their 2015 Toyota Camry and fled on Highway 51. While allegedly fleeing in the stolen vehicle, Ramey crashed and abandoned the vehicle, then running on foot into a wooded area.
That’s when a Louisiana State Trooper fired their service weapon. Ramey was ultimately taken into custody and remains in a local hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.
Investigators later learned that Ramey had active warrants for Hit and Run, Careless Operation, Filing False Police Reports, and Injuring Public Records.
