Arrangements set for Ponchatoula police officer who died earlier this week

PONCHATOULA — Funeral arrangements are set for Ponchatoula officer Corporal Pricilla Dean Pierson who passed away earlier this week.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 9 to 11 a.m. with chapel service beginning at 11. Interment will be at Rosaryville Cemetery in Ponchatoula.

Ponchatoula Police Chief announced at a news conference Thursday morning that a Gofundme has been set up for Pierson who passed away Tuesday morning.

Chief Bry Layrisson said the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office will bring its peer support team to Ponchatoula on Friday to help the officers.

“The loss of Pricilla has been a tremendous loss to all of us,” Layrisson said Thursday. “We have to do what we can to support her family and our officers as well.”

Officials say Pierson died after she was found unresponsive at the Rouses Supermarket. The department received a call from a concerned citizen at Rouses at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office assisted the Ponchatoula Police Department. When the Coroner’s Office arrived, Pierson was deceased. Officials say autopsy results showed Pierson had had an 80 percent blockage in an artery and two additional contributing factors that led to her death.

Cpl. Pierson was a part of the Ponchatoula Police Department for six years. She began her career as a part-time communications officer and earned her current position as a Cpl. in the patrol division.

“She was a great person, wife, and an outstanding mother,” Layrisson said.

She leaves her husband, Larry Pierson, three children, and two step-children behind. Captain Larry Pierson has served Ponchatoula for over 25 years.

“Our community has experienced a tremendous loss today,” Layrisson said. “We ask that you continue praying for Pricillia’s family, Larry, and her friends and co-workers.” We will forever be grateful for Cpl. Pricilla Pierson’s service to our department and community.”
