store clerk stabbing

A store clerk has been arrested after a verbal argument escalated into a stabbing over selling cigarettes.

Sam Brandon, 27, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. Officials say Brandon was the clerk Tuesday evening at the gas station.

It was Tuesday evening around 6pm at the Shell gas station at the corner of Airline Hwy. & Pecue Lane when deputies responded to reports of a stabbing.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies say the man who was stabbed went into the store wanting to buy cigarettes. Brandon said he had “inadequate identification” and refused to sell the cigarettes, according to his arresting documents

That led up to a verbal argument and then a fist fight. Brandon is then accused of stabbing the man with a 5-inch knife several times.

The man was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was stabbed multiple times including to the leg, upper back and head.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies say Brandon told them the victim was upset that he would not sell him the cigarettes and they met at the counter where the alleged fighting started leading to the stabbing.

Brandon is charged with one count of aggravated battery.
