Arrest made in Sorrento drive-by shooting

Authorities made an arrest in an October drive-by shooting in Sorrento that left two people injured, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement arrested 20-year-old Quendez Vancourt of Convent in relation to the incident. Vancourt is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting, illegal use of weapons and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Detectives, with assistance from the US Marshall’s Task Force, located Vancourt in East Baton Rouge Parish. He was arrested and booked into the EBR Parish Jail on unrelated charges. He will later be transported to the Ascension Parish Jail for the charges related to the shooting in Sorrento.

Deputies responded to the incident on October 10, 2022, at 1 a.m. after there were reports of a shooting on New Orleans street. When deputies arrived they found a vehicle hit with multiple gunshots.

Two people who were inside the vehicle were hit. Both were transported to a local hospital and recovered.

This is an ongoing investigation.
