BATON ROUGE — A 92-year-old woman died in a multi-vehicle crash and the driver of one of the vehicles has been arrested, charged with negligent homicide.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 on Highland Rd. at I-10 in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Mary Harris, 92, of Prairieville, died in the crash and two others were seriously injured.
The investigation from State Police troopers so far shows that Wayne J. Green, 76, of Kenner, was driving west on I-10 in a 2003 Toyota Highlander. Green exited the I-10 off-ramp at a high rate of speed and hit the passenger side of a 2020 Acura RDX that was headed north on Highland Rd., according to troopers. Because of the impact, the Acura was pushed across the median into the southbound lanes of Highland Rd. before landing in a ditch. Troopers added that Green’s Toyota also then hit a 2020 Ford Raptor and debris from that crash hit a 2025 Hyundai Tucson.
Mary Harris was a passenger in the Acura. She was rushed to a hospital but did not survive her injuries. The driver of the Acura was also transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Green had serious injuries as well. He was transported to a hospital, where he was also arrested.
Once he is released from the hospital, he will be charged with negligent homicide, negligent injuring and reckless operation. He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
State trooper say that all drivers were properly buckled. Per standard procedure, toxicology samples were taken, and the crash remains under investigation.
