PRAIRIEVILLE — Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a couple from Prairieville who had adopted a boy, but now stand accused of severely abusing him.
Gina, 44, and husband Mark Sagona, 45, were both arrested on April 27th after detectives responded to their home from a report by the Dept. of Child & Family Services. The report from DCFS mentioned possible child abuse of a 14-year-old boy at the home.
When deputies started investigating, they found home video footage that APSO says showed Gina Sagona allegedly “force the juvenile face down into the dog urine and then drag him through it.” Deputies added the juvenile was also “struck multiple times,” APSO said in a release. During an interview with detectives, APSO says Gina Sagona did admit to the abuse.
Gina Sagona is now behind bars, charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile.
Meanwhile, APSO says her husband, Mark Sagona, was present during portions of the incident involving dog urine. He too has been arrested and is charged with principal to cruelty to a juvenile.
Bond has been set for the couple. Gina’s bond has been set at $50,000 while her husband’s bond is set at $40,000.
