MODESTE —- A 43-year-old man from Zachary is behind bars, accused of shooting and killing a man deputies say he knew.
It was around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2 when Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting outside a home on Hwy. 405, near Sportsman Lounge in Modeste.
Deputies found Brandon Cayette, 40, of Donaldsonville, shot multiple times. He died on the scene.
Deputies say several people started fighting after an argument over paid parking at a trail ride event. Anwar McKenney, 43, and Cayette, were arguing when McKenney is accused of fatally shooting Cayette. Deputies say the two men knew each other and had grown up together.
McKenney left the scene but deputies did find and detain him for questioning. “McKenney admitted to detectives that he shot Cayette during the altercation,” deputies said.
McKenney has been booked into the Ascension Parish Jail, charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.
