GONZALES — After two shootings over the weekend in Gonzales, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is now investigating a double shooting that happened just outside the city limits of Gonzales. This one happened at a home on Hackett Canal Drive in Gonzales
It was around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 2, when Ascension Parish deputies responded to the Pelican Crossing area for the double shooting. One man was found outside the home with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a hospital. A second person, who was also shot in his leg, drove himself to a hospital. He has now been identified as 25-year-old Kevin Chambers of Geismar.
APSO says the victim told them that Chambers, who is a family acquaintance, had pointed a gun at him following an argument between the two of them. That’s when shots rang out and both men were hit in their legs. The investigation is ongoing and further details have not been released at this time.
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Chambers for the shooting. He is charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of weapons.
Additional charges could be pending as the investigation unfolds.
