Ascension investigating shooting after vehicle burglary

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in the Oakland Crossing neighborhood in Prairieville as well as a string of vehicle burglaries.

It happened around 10pm on Jan. 2nd.

APSO officials say it appears two unknown men were breaking into a vehicle when the homeowner noticed. When the homeowner went outside, the suspects fled in their own vehicle. While fleeing, one of them fired multiple rounds hitting the homeowner’s wife.

She was grazed by a bullet and she did take herself to a hospital. She had non-life threatening injuries.

During their investigation, detectives learned the suspect vehicle is described as a newer model compact black SUV. Detectives believe this vehicle and the suspects are linked to a string of vehicle burglaries that have occurred in Oakland Crossing and neighboring subdivisions.

Deputies are actively looking for the persons accused of breaking into the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call APSO anonymously at 225-621-4636 or by texting 847411 to the anonymous tip line from any cellular device or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
