GEISMAR — Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested two people in connection with a deadly July 4th shooting in Geismar that left an 18-year-old dead.
Deputies arrested Jadon Sterling, 17, of Gonzales, and Jeremiah Brown, 20, of St. Gabriel. Sterling is charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. Brown is charged with principal to second-degree murder and principal to illegal use of weapons.
It was around 10 p.m. on July 4 when APSO deputies responded to a shooting on Dave Miller Road in Geismar. Upon arrival, deputies found Justin Scott, 18, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
APSO says Scott and a second person, (identified as Jadon Sterling), were at the home on Dave Miller Rd. when the two got into an argument. That led up to an exchange of gunfire.
Scott died from his injuries. Sterling was also struck and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested after being discharged from the hospital and charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Detectives identified Jeremiah Brown as a second suspect and accomplice to Sterling. Officials say Brown acted as Sterling’s getaway driver. He later turned himself in.
This is an ongoing investigation.
