Ascension man killed in two-vehicle crash early Monday morning

Around 5:30 am on Aug. 1, 2022, State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 429 at Roddy Rd. in Ascension Parish. Chad Jones, 50, of Gonzales, was killed in the crash.  

The initial investigation reveals Jones was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro south on Roddy Rd. The Camaro entered the intersection of LA 429 and Roddy Rd. with a green traffic signal. At the same time, Jacquel Wade, 25, of Sorrento, was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry west on LA 429.  

For reasons still under investigation, Wade disregarded a traffic light, and hit the side of the Camaro. Further investigation shows Wade was also the suspect involved in a hit & run crash that took place nearby.       

Jones, who was not buckled according to troopers, died at the scene.

Wade suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Impairment is not suspected for either driver, but as normal procedure, a toxicology sample was taken from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.
