GONZALES — A mother of six from St. Amant was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Gonzales Saturday, UWK has learned.

Gonzales Police tell UWK that Jennifer Davenport Tanner, 38, was traveling south on Airline Hwy. when she ran a red light at N. Burnside Ave., crashing into another vehicle.

Police say that Tanner was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, Joey Gregoire of Prairieville, was not injured.

Tanner’s 14-year-old son was with her and was not injured. Family friends tell UWK that the two were on their way home from a friend’s house. A routine toxicology sample was collected from Tanner for analysis, Gonzales police said.

Her family disputes the Gonzales police’s preliminary crash report, which states that Tanner slammed into Gregoire’s car. They believe that, based on the damage to Tanner’s SUV, she was actually the one who was hit.

Tanner leaves behind her husband and their six children, aged 1, 2, 5, 6, 14, and 16.

The crash was part of a deadly weekend on area roads that left four others dead in three separate crashes in Livingston and West Baton Rouge Parishes.

“She was a loving wife, she enjoyed hanging with her family the most,” a family friend told UWK. “She helped anyone in need, and she loved everyone.”

The friend added that Tanner also enjoyed being on the river in the family’s boat with her kids.

“She was very strong minded. If you told her she couldn’t do something, she proved you wrong and did it.”

UWK is told that Tanner worked for Turner Industries at Westlake Chemical in Geismar.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set. The crash remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
