Ascension: One killed in Darrow shooting, woman arrested

DARROW: A 52-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting Saturday night in Darrow.

Mark Perkins, 45, of Darrow, died from his injuries in the shooting. Kendra Washington, 52, also from Darrow, was arrested for the murder.

On Saturday, June 15, around 11:00 p.m., Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at a home along Highway 75 in Darrow. Upon arrival, deputies found Perkins suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, but did not survive his injuries.

During their investigation, detectives learned that Washington and the victim were involved in a relationship. APSO says Washington initially denied firing the fatal shot, but then later confessed to detectives that she shot Perkins with a handgun after an argument that turned physical.

She was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. Washington is charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.

This is the second deadly shooting this weekend in Ascension Parish. The first one was in Donaldsonville on Friday night where a 22-year-old man was killed.
