GONZALES — A shooting Sunday night at a business on Airline Highway has left one man clinging to life and a 19-year-old behind bars.
It was around 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 5 when Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at Double A Discount on Airline Highway in Gonzales.
So far in the investigation, APSO says the victim approached a vehicle in a parking lot and that’s when shots rang out. The victim was transported to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputies did find evidence including a gun and multiple shell casings at the scene. Officials believe this is not a random act of violence.
During the investigation, deputies came up with a suspect vehicle, which was later found at a home on South Richland Avenue in Gonzales.
Darrian Washington, 19, of Gonzales, turned himself in to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and was arrested on one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal use of a weapon.
No further details have been released at this time. APSO says additional charges may be pending.
