Ascension Parish deputy arrested and fired

ASCENSION — An Ascension Parish Deputy has been arrested and terminated from his job after he’s accused of taking something inside the parish jail.

Ryan Callaway was arrested Aug. 30 after an investigation involving contraband brought into the Ascension Parish Jail.

He is charged with one-count of introduction of contraband into a penal facility and malfeasance in office. Callaway had been with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office for a year and most recently was employed in the corrections division.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office launched their investigation after they learned that Callaway allegedly took contraband into the jail at least once. When questioned, APSO said Callaway admitted to the transactions during an interview and was terminated from employment.

The Ascension Parish deputy was arrested and booked into jail.

This is an ongoing investigation. Further details may be limited at this time. Anyone with additional information on this case or any APSO case is asked to call APSO with details.

A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
