PRAIRIEVILLE — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly stabbing that claimed the life of a Gonzales Police officer’s wife. Their 23-year-old son has been arrested and is accused of murdering his mother.
It was around noon on Saturday, April 12, when Ascension Parish deputies responded to a home on Misty Oak Court in Prairieville.
There, they discovered a woman who had been stabbed to death. She has since been identified as 48-year-old Shanitra Marshall.
Dillon Marshall, 23, of Prairieville, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Multiple sources confirm to UWK that Dillon Marshall was battling a mental illness and was off of his medication. He’s accused of stabbing his mother to death. When his father, an active Gonzales Police officer, saw what was happening, sources confirm he fired a shot in the ground in his son’s direction. His son was not injured, but his wife did not survive her injuries.
“The Gonzales Police Department is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred yesterday involving the family of one of our own. Our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with our officer and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. As a department, we stand together in support, offering strength, comfort, and privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson told UWK.
