Ascension Parish investigating escaped inmate

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two inmates escaped the parish jail in Donaldsonville.

Both inmates have been captured. One was captured as soon as he attempted the escape. He was identified as Morris Miles, 29. Miles is in for a murder charge from 2019.

The second one was on the run for about half an hour to an hour.

He was identified as Albert Smith, who was arrested on April 5, 2022. He was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things, resisting an officer, a parole violation and three bench warrants.
