GONZALES — Ascension Parish voters will cast their ballots on a 15.08-mill property tax renewal during a special election on April 27. If approved, the funds will be allocated towards constructing a new school and implementing improvements in at least eight other schools within the district.
The district asserts that the tax renewal represents a $110 million investment. This investment will encompass reconfiguring Lake Elementary into a K-8 primary and middle school, as well as undertaking renovations and expansions at other campuses, along with acquiring land for future schools in the bustling district.
Residents of Ascension Parish have been contributing to this property tax since 1980. The current mill rate of 15.08 was established in 1996 and has remained unchanged since then.

Ascension Parish stands as the state’s ninth-largest school district, boasting a student body exceeding 24,000. With an influx of 300 to 400 new students annually, the district consistently ranks among the top performers in terms of school performance.
Early voting is underway and runs through April 20. Election day is April 27.
