ASCENSION PARISH — Ascension Parish Schools are warning of possible school bus delays on Wednesday morning.
In an email to parents on Tuesday night, school officials stated that they have been informed “that some of our school bus drivers may not report to work tomorrow (Wednesday).” The district acknowledges uncertainty regarding the extent of these impacts and whether some schools may be more affected than others.
“It is our hope that all of our bus drivers will complete their routes,” the district reassured parents.
The district also mentioned that schools might implement emergency routes to pick up students, and this information will be communicated by the schools in the morning, as stated in the email. A one-hour grace period will be granted to students experiencing transportation delays, and tardies will not be issued if students are affected.
Some drivers have advocated for safety improvements on buses, including the addition of air conditioning. The heatwave at the beginning of the school year posed challenges for both drivers and students. The issue was deemed serious enough for the school board to consider proposals for installing air conditioning on school buses.
