With longtime District Attorney Scott Perrilloux announcing he will not seek reelection next fall, Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio has entered the race to succeed him in the 21st Judicial District that represents Livingston, Tangipahoa, and St. Helena parishes.
Cascio, a conservative Republican and lifelong Hammond resident, has served under Perrilloux for more than a decade. In that time, he has prosecuted more than 4,000 cases, secured multiple life sentences, and achieved what he calls “landmark rulings” in the courtroom, including Louisiana’s first court-ordered physical castration of a sex offender.
“For the past 12 years, I’ve stood in the courtroom every day fighting for victims, holding criminals accountable, and making sure our families are safe,” Cascio said. “As District Attorney, I will continue to do the job I’ve been doing. I’ll be a relentless advocate for justice, a voice for the voiceless, and a protector of the vulnerable.”
Cascio added that his vision for the office also focuses on second chances.
“Justice isn’t only about punishment—it’s also about redemption,” he said. “When someone takes responsibility and works toward a better path, we should give them the tools to succeed. Building safer communities means holding offenders accountable and helping people rebuild their lives.”
In addition to his work as an assistant district attorney, Cascio serves as city prosecutor for Denham Springs and French Settlement. He also sits on the boards of the Capital Area Law Enforcement Commission and the Tangipahoa Council on Aging, and volunteers as a youth sports coach at Chappapeela Sports Park.
Cascio will appear on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2026.
