NAPOLEONVILLE — An Assumption Parish Detention corrections officer was arrested Monday on multiple charges after he allegedly brought contraband into the jail. There is no word of what that contraband was.
Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested Ali Gant, 27, of Napoleonville on May 12 on charges of malfeasance in office and taking contraband to/from a penal institution. He is in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
According to officials, on May 8, investigators received information that inmates in a particular block of the jail may be in possession of some contraband. After an internal investigation, Corrections Officer Gant was identified as the person who allegedly brought the contraband into the facility.
Investigators interviewed Gant on Monday. Based on that interview and other evidence obtained during the investigation, deputies arrested Gant.
Gant has been employed with the facility since Nov. 27, 2024. His employment was terminated on Monday, May 12.
