Attorney accused of perjury suspended from practicing law

BATON ROUGE — The state Supreme Court has suspended the law license of a Baton Rouge attorney convicted of domestic battery in St. Tammany Parish.

Stephen Paul Wright, 41, is suspended for a year and a day, according to a court ruling Wednesday.

Three justices dissented, saying the proposed discipline was too lenient, but the court signed off on the discipline negotiated between Wright and the state Office of Disciplinary Counsel.

Wright, who runs the lobbying and policy firm Seersucker Strategies in Baton Rouge, was arrested in St. Tammany Parish in 2023 on domestic abuse involving strangulation and child endangerment, St. Tammany Court records show.

He chose to be tried by a judge rather than a jury and was convicted, according to court records. In November 2025, the judge put Wright on probation for two years, with the provision that he can have the case retroactively dismissed if he completes probation successfully.

The state Supreme Court ruling said the Office of Disciplinary Counsel investigated allegations that Wright was charged and “that he perjured himself during his trial.”

The ruling provides no further details on what the alleged perjury entailed.

The ruling said that before he was formally charged in the case, Wright and the Office of Disciplinary Counsel worked out an agreement on punishment, which is called a joint petition for consent discipline.

Justices Jay McCallum, John Michael Guidry and William Burris all dissented, saying they “would reject the proposed discipline as too lenient.”

Wright’s probation includes requirements for a domestic abuse intervention court and community service.

Wright did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
