MADISONVILLE — The Attorney General’s Office has now confirmed they are investigating a possible incident involving St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith that occurred Friday afternoon at a Madisonville-area restaurant.
“We have received a referral regarding an incident involving St. Tammany Sheriff Randy Smith. We have accepted the referral. Because this is an open investigation, we will have no further comment,” AG Liz Murrill said in a statement.
It comes after the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office requested for the Attorney General to step in and take the investigation since the allegation involves the agency’s sheriff.

The post suggested Sheriff Smith came up from behind the man before allegedly punching him. No details have been provided into whether the sheriff was acting in self-defense or retaliation. The Attorney General’s Office will be investigating it.
