Teen killed, second teen injured and mother seriously burned trying to save them following ATV crash

LORANGER — Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s investigators are currently conducting an investigation into an ATV crash that resulted in the tragic death of a teenager, severe injuries to another teen, and significant burns to a mother.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon on Gliderport Rd. in Loranger. According to TPSO Chief Jimmy Travis, two teenagers, aged 13 and 14, were riding on the ATV when they lost control, colliding with a culvert and several fence posts. The impact caused the ATV to burst into flames.

The mother of one of the teens as another person saw what happened rushed to aid the two teenagers.

The 14-year-old did not survive the crash. Emergency responders swiftly transported the 13-year-old to North Oaks Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to address severe injuries. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to Children’s Hospital for further medical care.

Travis says the mother of the 14-year-old was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital for treatment for her burns.

As the investigation continues, officials suspect that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The names of the victims were not released since they were minors.
