BAKER —- Just one day after a deadly domestic violence murder-suicide in Central, now, Baker Police officers are investigating another one. In this case however, officials say a boyfriend did shoot himself, survived and died a day later. His girlfriend died on the scene.
The girlfriend has been identified as Kyra Hayes, 24, and her boyfriend Brendon Ely, 20, was on life-support after shooting himself and surviving. As of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5th, officials confirm that he was declared brain dead due to his injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
It was around 6:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 when officers responded to Tristian Ave. for a shooting. That’s off of McHugh Rd. near Groom Rd. in Baker.
Officers found Hayes, who did not survive her injuries, on the scene. Her boyfriend had been shot in the head and was rushed to a hospital.
Officials believe this to be a domestic murder-attempted suicide where a boyfriend shot his girlfriend first and then turned the gun on himself.
This is the second domestic incident officials are investigating. Another happened in Central Sunday morning where a girlfriend was killed and her boyfriend then shot himself. He had just bonded out six weeks prior on a domestic battery against his girlfriend, who he killed Sunday.
