BAKER — A house fire on Southwest Drive in Baker Friday morning sent one person to the hospital and left a home in ruins. Officials are currently investigating the fire’s cause.
The fire also caused minor damage to the neighboring houses on both sides of the structure, Baker Fire Chief Keith Pease said.
The call came in just after 8 a.m. Friday that a home in the 1000 block of Southwest Drive was on fire. Baker Fire, along with multiple Baton Rouge Fire and Zachary Fire units, responded to the scene.
A man, who was in the home at the time of the fire, was severely burned and transported to a nearby hospital, Pease said. That man is listed in critical condition at this time.
It took firefighters about a half hour to control the fire once on scene. The house is deemed a total loss, he said.
The source of the fire is undetermined at this time but officials say it may have been a gas leak that led up to an explosion. Arson investigators are also involved in determining the official cause of the fire.
