BAKER — When Linda Dawson woke up on July 7, she had no idea her life was about to change forever. Just after 6 p.m., two of her grandsons were shot on Seville Avenue.
One of them, 18-year-old Terrance Freeman, was killed. His brother, Terrell Freeman, was rushed to the ICU.
“Terrance was such a sweetheart. He gave the best hugs in the world, and he was a good big brother,” Dawson said. “He loved everybody. He was real friendly. He had no enemies. For this to happen to him, it’s just breaking my heart, my family’s heart, but he was a good kid.”
Dawson is used to seeing Terrance regularly. “I see him all the time. And he’ll text me say, ‘Maw Maw, can you do this for me?’ That’s what kind of kid he was. He loved his Maw Maw,” Dawson said.
Last year, Dawson was diagnosed with cancer, and she said Terrance always checked on her. “I told him, ‘You know, Maw Maw has a terminal illness. And if anything happens to me, make sure you continue for me.’ I just knew he was going to be there. I didn’t think I would have to bury him.”
Terrance just graduated from Baker High School and had plans to attend college. “He had gotten a $14,000 scholarship, and he was going to go to Southern University to be accountant,” Dawson explained. She said his brother, Terrell, was planning to go down the same path to become an accountant.
Since the shooting, Terrell has undergone multiple surgeries. “He’s having his last surgery today. This is fifth surgery since he’d been shot,” she said. “He was giving a thumbs up yesterday, because he’s on the respirator. But after he has this surgery today, he should be able to get off of it and be able to talk with us.”

Officials arrested 17-year-old QuinDarius Washington on July 8, and he faces multiple charges including second degree murder, attempted second degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal use of weapons, resisting an officer, and possession of Schedule II drugs.
