BAKER — A teenager who was shot Saturday night has died at the hospital, Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn confirmed to UWK.
The 16-year-old teen was shot on November 9 in the 1000 block of Florida Ave. in Baker, just south of Baker High School near Groom Rd. and Main St. His name has not been released at this time.
Baker School System Superintendent JT Stroder announced that counselors will be available at the school in the coming days.
“This is a deeply difficult time for our school community, and our hearts go out to the family of the student involved,” Stroder said in a message to parents. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as well.”
Through Baker PD’s investigation, officers developed Tra’meir Smith, 18, as a suspect. He was arrested and charged with negligent homicide. Smith was also arrested for an outstanding warrant through N.O.P.D as a fugitive.
